Tim Petersen first learned about photography in his father's studio, which opened in the 1970s, a time that was crucial for the burgeoning German photography industry. Petersen opened his own studio in Hamburg at the age of 22 and quickly developed a fascination with the New York subculture scene.
Notorious underground fashion magazines such as "Interview," "Details" and "Arude" were also published at this time; these saw style as a statement, an attempt to express the feelings of a generation. After moving to New York, Petersen dove deep into this editorial scene and it was here that he found and developed his unique artistic style.
